You have to like Orwell quite a bit to buy his non-fiction work. All the tabs are clearly written in a style even most beginners would understand. This is a good book. Instead, I will post my reactions to this finely crafted work of fiction.
I read this book after reading the more humorous Falling Colours (the first in the Vision Painter series) and after reading Samuel’s excellent, dark A Place Somewhere. It was the French bureaucrats and censors ultimate revenge on the freedom of the arts. In this day of fitness fads, I found this book to be a tremendous reference of time-tested methods of fitness. I enjoyed this part of the story. One of my pet peeves is when naturally skinny people (or people who lose 20 lbs one time in their life) try to tell people with actual weight or body image issues just how EASY it is (oh, and hey, now it's PLEASURABLE) to lose weight. I had the good fortune to be able to beta read this book. So perhaps my distaste is influenced by that. A
