And though this book is heavily footnoted, researched, and extensive in its coverage of known and less known writers, it is eminently readable! Lewis is not afraid to let us know when his "opinion" versus "cold fact" is being stated; he allows us to grow to understand his method of decision making and is generous in his quotations of passages that support his claims. It's as if 20 pages fell out of the manuscript on the way to the printer.
Still in all, I would definitely recommend this book to someone who is struggling with these aircraft. Dah! LOL. Quaint style not well edited but shows older attitudes among US citizens at time of Canal construction.. It's sad that hand crafts have fallen so far out of everyday life but this book will not help them reemerge.
I would much rather find an original print book.
