In my opinion,that I have read this book,this is really a book on elementary ALGEBRAIC Geometry!,I mean it treats elementarily subjects that you may find them after a graduate course in algebraic geometry this book begins with preliminary results on affine varieties,but in advanced view points, for example it defines an affine varieties as a variety(!) that is a represetative functor by a affine algebra over an algebraically closed field. This is guaranteed to make a boy very, very nervous.. Please, please play this for your young children to give them a firm foundation for life..
