Whereas the first four books of the series cover the exploration of the four realms, this book starts the synthesis of the various threads from those books into a movement towards closure. George Kempf was a brilliant mathematician who mastered the most abstract tools invented by Grothendieck, and could use them skillfully to treat every topic in algebraic geometry. MacAvoy’s prose is a joy to read and makes up for the lack of riveting action. If you daytrade S&P, Tbond or currency futures, then you can use this book. Also, I was amused to find out that Edie is allowed to use trank guns on difficult patients.
On the other hand, there are still parts of this novel that are just dead weight. The book OOZES liberal elitist condescension- like I'm pretty sure she's the kind of person that would pull out the purell and wipe her hands in front of you after meeting anyone she felt was beneath her or donate to the poor- as long as she didn't actually have to, ya know, talk to
