There are some blushes, elusions, a few catty comments but nothing steamy or overt. "Still Life," is the first book in the Chief Inspector Gamache mystery series which introduced you to Gamache, his team of homicide investigators and the people who live in the village of Three Pines. Once again RJ Samuel has broken the mold of traditional lesbian fiction and has created a haunting, multicultural work of literary fiction filled with complex mysteries, pain, fear, and a family’s coming to terms with the protagonist’s profession and sexual orientation. At least this time his presence is important enough to be essential to the novel's ending, yet it doesn't help that he's STILL an obnoxious bore.
And Edie's shapeshifter friend becomes even MORE of a deus ex machina this time around, as he's trotted across the novel's pages to be used whenever Alexander gets lazy and needs a utilitarian ch
