I've read all the popular books and I like to delve into the less well known. I was dependent on my father when it came to everything from dashboard lights to oil changes. If you have the first edition, save your money - it's basically the same book with only a chapter or two of new information that's extremely general. I have been working with cars for year's , the information on the ecu and the tuning is great. But the horses, though magnificent, aren't my favorite. Multiple misspellings, poor grammar, cut-and-pasted passages that obviously were intended for filler, or were just oversights. They were handled in a very realistic, fair, and sometimes amusing way.
The depiction of teenage life is pretty gritty and accurate. A quick calculation of Kershner's age at the time of the 9th edition publication makes me wonder if he was even involved in creating the updated sections.
